Legals

To grow as a platform involves Glovaro’s effort in building and maintaining a structure and joint community effort in contributing to contents. Hence, we saw it fit to be bound by [a] community guideline[s].

Note:

Glovaro uses the term 'content' to describe reviews, interview tips, ratings, photos, awards, and other user-submitted content.

Glovaro uses the term ‘worker’ to describe any individual who has delivered work product for a company and/or are a significant part of an employer’s value chain. These workers can be full-time, part-time, contractors, freelancers, independent, interns or similar.

In addition, Glovaro uses the term ‘employer’ to describe the entity that employs workers and/or provides the opportunity for workers to make a living. We may also use the term ‘employer’ to describe an official company representative; this may be someone in HR or recruiting, marketing or a member of the senior leadership team.

Reviews Guidelines

Follow these guidelines to ensure everyone can benefit from an authentic community.

  • Reviewer: Your review should be truthful and constitute your own personal opinion and experience with your current or former employer. We don’t take sides when it comes to factual disputes, so we expect you to stand behind your statements expressed in your content.
  • Each individual is allowed one review, per employer, per year, per review type. If a user updates a review within a year, the older review will be archived and the newer review will be listed. Your content should be related to jobs you have held (or interviews you have had) within the last five years so it’s relevant to today’s job seeker.
  • We encourage you to think about work from a few perspectives and include both a positive and negative to provide a balanced review. While not required, we do believe balanced reviews make for a better community experience.
  • We allow reviews that name individuals in the highest positions in a company who have broad influence over the work environment, as long as the review describes the individual’s behavior or performance at work. Individuals in this category include those who are the public face of the company (C-Suite, Executive Director, President, Owner, Founder, etc.) We believe this information is generally representative of a company’s culture and can be informative to job candidates.
  • We do not allow reviews that include negative comments about identifiable individuals outside of this group.
  • We realize talking about work can get emotionally charged, but we don't approve reviews that include certain profanities, threats of violence, or discriminatory language targeted at an individual or group. We may allow reviews that mention race, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation and the like if we believe the comment is used to describe a workplace situation. General discussions of workplace misconduct are allowed, including most discussions of illegal activities, discrimination, and sexual harassment.
  • We do not accept reviews that reveal confidential, non-public internal company information. We consider this to include: source code, customer lists, manufacturing techniques, R&D activities, budgets, detailed financial results and technical know-how.
  • To safeguard privacy, we do not allow you to identify yourself or include any contact information (about yourself or others) in your posts.
  • We reject reviews that do not relate to an employer, are only a review of the product or service, or are otherwise not relevant to understanding a workplace culture.
  • We will reject any content meant as an advertisement or containing a web link.
  • All reviews should be original – no substantial quoted material from other sources, including (but not limited to) websites, e-mail correspondence, other reviews, etc.
  • Your writing doesn't have to be perfect, but we need to be able to understand it. We reject reviews for excessive capitalization or filler words/characters. And remember, your review will be more credible if you use good grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Photos & Awards Guidelines

A great photo can tell a job seeker a lot about the workplace. We welcome photos of building interiors and exteriors, company events, and interesting items showcasing the culture and the work environment.

  • Do not post:
    • screenshots (Videoconferencing photos are allowed but cannot contain employee names, locations, or images of minors or anything in our sole discretion that we deem inappropriate.)
    • photos of marketing material, logos or websites
    • portraits of individuals
    • photos of patients in a healthcare setting
    • photos that document workplace violations or disclose confidential information
    • photos not relevant to the employment setting
  • Photo captions must also be considered appropriate in accordance with our Reviews Guidelines.
  • Showcase your awards — We encourage you to post awards and accolades received by your employer or CEO within the past seven years that relate to the employer. Product specific awards are also welcome when they represent the primary business of the company. Note that we do not actively moderate awards. If you see an award that is inaccurate please contact us via c.guidelines@glovaro.com and we will assess it against our guidelines.
Employer Response Guidelines

Employer responses are also moderated using the Reviews Guidelines, with the exception that we do allow employers to include their contact information and relevant web links (e.g. links to internal company policies, ethics/compliance hotline sites, etc.)

When responding, we specifically ask employers to:

  • Be courteous and professional.
  • Do not include the name of the individual you believe wrote the review.
  • Do not threaten the writer of a review with legal or other punitive damage.

Note that Glovaro moderates employer responses after they have posted. Therefore, if the response does not meet the guidelines, it may be shown for a short time before we remove it. (You will be notified by email if we remove your response.)

Important Information

We love it when companies encourage their employees and job candidates to share honest reviews on Note:

Glovaro uses the term 'content' to describe reviews, interview tips, ratings, photos, awards, and other user-submitted content.

Glovaro uses the term ‘worker’ to describe any individual who has delivered work products for a company and/or are a significant part of an employer’s value chain.

We expect all of our users to follow these guidelines, as well as Glovaro and Privacy Policy. Glovaro reserves the right to remove a review or employer response at any time for any reason. The reviews approved and posted on Glovaro are individual and highly subjective opinions. The opinions expressed in reviews are those of Glovaro users and not of Glovaro PTY LTD.

If you see something on Glovaro that you believe violates our guidelines, you should flag it for our review. We will reply via email with our decision; we do not accept or return phone calls. Keep in mind that flagging a piece of content for a second look does not guarantee that it will be removed from the site. Because of the diversity of our community, it's possible that something could be disagreeable or disturbing to you without meeting the criteria for being removed or blocked.

We ask our users to understand that we apply the same standard of review for all content (whether or not the content concerns an employer client of Glovaro). Ultimately, content decisions are within our sole discretion and we do not negotiate about our application of a guideline to our final decision as to whether or not a piece of content warrants removal.

I'm an employer. What can I do about negative reviews on Glovaro?

There are 2 options on how to handle your negative reviews:

- Flag Them

If you believe a review violates our Community Guidelines or Terms of Use, you can flag it directly on our site and our Content team will give it a second look. If we find that we missed something the first time, we’ll take it down. Here are some things to keep in mind about our reviews and how we moderate them:

  • You can’t pay us to take down a review or ask us to change moderation rules to our clients.
  • Our members self certify their relationship with their employer.
  • We remove reviews when we find evidence of abuse of our "one review, per company worked at, per year” policy.
  • Reviewers can discuss most senior leadership by name but aren’t allowed to name anyone below this level.
  • We don’t take sides in disputes (factual or contractual) between employers and reviewers.
  • We generally ask or consider evidence offered by someone with a vested interest in getting a review taken down, because we don’t know how reliable it is.
  • We won't tell you who wrote a review.
  • We don’t remove companies from our platform.
  • And final content decisions are within our sole discretion.
- Respond to them

We believe you have a right to tell your side of the story. You can respond directly on our site for free. We recommend that you reply to all of the reviews, both positive and negative. We’ve learned that our users have a more favorable impression of employers who take the time to respond to reviews on Glovaro in a calm and thoughtful way. You should also know that the Employer Response is the only comment we publish on any review – so we let you have the last word.

Ask for your Employees to leave more reviews

We encourage you to ask your employees to leave honest reviews on Glovaro but never coerce them . If employees are generally satisfied with the work experience with their employer, this will likely result in more positive reviews on the profile. And we know that job seekers tend to read a number of reviews and discount the outliers on either end of the spectrum. But remember, we do not allow employers to incentivize or coerce employees to leave positive reviews. And each individual is allowed one review, per employer, per year, per review type. When we have evidence of reviews posted in violation of these policies, we remove them - and if the practice persists, we may even warn our users about this behavior by posting a notice on your profile.

Will Glovaro remove my company from the site if I ask?

Because workplace transparency and job aggregation is a core part of our mission, we can't agree to remove your company from Glovaro if you ask us to do so.

Glovaro provides a forum for candid discussion about what it's like to work for any employer our job seekers want to know about. And we work to aggregate all the open job listings in Africa. Relevant law allows us to host employer profiles and their publicly available open job listings without having to ask for permission.

You can cancel your account, you'll no longer be able to respond to reviews, have direct access to update your company information, or view basic analytics about your profile - it doesn't mean that we'll remove the employer profile itself.

Will Glovaro remove a review that I flag as false and defamatory?

Glovaro doesn't take sides in factual disputes. Our reviewers tell us that they believe their reviews reflect their true experiences and they take responsibility for what they post. So if you, or your lawyers, contact us to say that something in a review is untrue and defamatory, we don't know who to believe. Unless we find some other violation of our policies, we allow our users to stand by their reviews.

Of course, if it's obvious to us that a review is false based on our access to reliable information from an independent source (such as facts in an article by a reputable news outlet), we'll remove the review. But please understand that we are a neutral forum for the content submitted by our users, not a news organization. So it is not our role to investigate and fact check each statement in a review. If you offer to send us your own evidence, we'll politely decline. We simply aren't suited to determine the accuracy, completeness, or authenticity of evidence offered to us by someone with an interest in getting a negative review taken down.

I wrote a Glovaro review. Will Glovaro protect my identity if an employer asks or if someone takes legal action to find out who I am?

Glovaro is committed to providing a constructive platform for people to share their opinions about their jobs and companies anonymously if they do choose- without fear of retaliation and intimidation.

So, if someone asks us to tell them who wrote a review, we say no.

But please note that if someone takes legal action to identify you and they can show that your review violated someone's legal rights, a court won't permit you to remain anonymous. In these circumstances, if the deciding court has jurisdiction over Glovaro, we may be obligated to disclose user information.

Can employers pay Glovaro to remove reviews?

No! Employers cannot pay Glovaro to remove reviews. We take this policy very seriously. So much so that we make our clients who purchase our recruiting solutions explicitly agree to this in their contracts with us.

We do not allow anyone to pay us to remove reviews simply because it's the right thing to do. It's important for our business that we don't. If we gave clients control over what reviews to display, we'd lose credibility and job seekers would stop using Glovaro to research employers and apply for jobs.
